Salt of the Earth

For the last 40 years, photographer Sebastião Salgado has been travelling through the continents, in the footsteps of an ever-changing humanity. He has witnessed some of the major events of our recent history; international conflicts, starvation and exodus. He now embarks on a discovery of pristine territories, wild fauna and flora, and of grandiose landscapes as part of a huge photographic project which is a tribute to the planet’s beauty. Sebastião Salgado’s life and work are revealed to us by his son, Juliano, who went with him during his last travels, and by fellow photographer Wim Wenders.

Athens, Winter 2010. Stelios Dimitrakopoulos has 32 hours before he loses everything. From the jazz bar, which with difficulty he still keeps running, to his own family. The Romanian gangster, who lent him money, wants to be paid immediately. Forced to carry out illegal errands by his ex-friend and mediator, his wife begins to consider abandoning him as the situation begins spiralling dangerously out of control. Meanwhile, Christmas is around the corner and the tree at Stelios’s house needs to be decorated.

The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared

After a long and exciting life, Alan Carlson is in a nursing home, believing that it is his last stop. The only problem is that he is still healthy, and his days are boring. As he approaches his 100th birthday, he decides to escape from this boring life.
He jumps from a window and begins a hilarious and unexpected journey that includes criminals, murderers, a suitcase full of money, an elephant and an incompetent policeman. For anyone else, it would be the journey of a lifetime, but for Alan its just routine.

Far From Men

Algeria, 1954. While rebellion rumbles in the valley, two very different men are thrown together by a world in turmoil, and forced to flee across the Atlas Mountains. In the midst of an icy winter, Daru (Viggo Mortensen), the reclusive teacher, is ordered to escort Mohamed (Reda Kateb), a villager accused of murder, to the nearest prison. Pursued by horsemen seeking summary justice, and by vengeful settlers, the two men decide to confront the unknown. Together they fight to gain their freedom.

Polk

1948, Thessaloniki, Greece. The American journalist G.W. Polk, working for CBS, walks into a restaurant. During his meal he discovers that he has already been murdered. A journey through the reflections of time and memory begins. The movie refers to the historical assassination of American journalist George Washington Polk, during the Greek civil war.

Timbuktu

Not far from Timbuktu, now ruled by the religious fundamentalists, Kidane lives peacefully in the dunes with his wife Satima, his daughter Toya, and Issan, their twelve-year-old shepherd. In town, the people suffer, powerless, from the regime of terror imposed by the Jihadists determined to control their faith. Music, laughter, cigarettes, even soccer have been banned. The women have become shadows but resist with dignity. Every day, the new improvised courts issue tragic and absurd sentences. Kidane and his family are being spared the chaos that prevails in Timbuktu. But their destiny changes when Kidane accidentally kills Amadou, the fisherman who slaughtered «GPS», his beloved cow. He now has to face the new laws of the foreign occupants.

The Strongest Man

The Strongest Man is a Miami-centric comedy about an anxiety-ridden Cuban man named Beef, who fancies himself the strongest man in the world. Beef’s best friend is a Korean man named Conan, who seeks acceptance from his parents and successful older brother. Together in a quest to recover Beef’s most beloved possession, a solid gold BMX bicycle, both find and lose so much more.

Wild Tales

Inequality, injustice, and the demands of the world we live in are causing anxiety and depression to many people. Occasionally, some of them erupt. This is a film about these people. The characters of Wild Tales pass the thin boundary that separates civilization from barbarism. The betrayal of a lover, the oppressed flashback to the past, even the frustration of a driver can lead to insanity and the guilty pleasure of losing control.
